What is ABBOT?
ABBOT — Agile Business Build, Operate, and Transform — is a proprietary software delivery framework that guides organisations through the complete delivery journey: from setting foundations and building solutions, through deploying them safely, to sustaining them in live operation.
ABBOT was developed to solve a persistent problem in complex delivery environments: agile teams succeed locally but struggle to maintain governance integrity, operational continuity, and strategic alignment at scale. Traditional frameworks impose too much ceremony; lightweight agile methods provide too little structure for regulated, multi-supplier, or enterprise contexts. ABBOT occupies the middle ground — rigorous enough for governance, flexible enough for fast delivery.
It is designed for organisations delivering digital transformation, operating in multi-supplier environments, managing complex legacy estates, or seeking to modernise their IT service ecosystem. It is particularly well-suited to UK public sector digital programmes, where governance accountability and delivery speed are equally non-negotiable demands.
ABBOT is not a methodology to be followed prescriptively. It is a framework to be applied pragmatically. Every engagement uses it differently, selecting the goals, playbooks, and governance mechanisms appropriate to its context. The framework provides structure; teams provide the judgement.
